Using Google Alerts for new content ideas
For those of y’all having trouble keeping up with the latest developments in whatever field you blog on, there is an option other than RSS feeds. Google has a service called Alerts that will send you emails based upon your search terms.

To start receiving alerts you just enter your search term, what type of alerts you want (News, Blogs, Web, Groups, or Comprehensive), how often you want to receive alerts (once a day, as-it-happens, or once a week), and your email address.
Let’s say you’ve got a blog about Spam. You could set a comprehensive alert for “spam” and then every time that Google comes across the word spam on a web page you’ll get an email. You probably should set the alerts to either once a day or once a week unless you want to be inundated with emails as Google finds new matches, especially if your alert is either broad or popular.
