Using Google tools to find content

One of the hard parts of blogging, and web building in general, is keeping up-to-date with your topic. Google has two tools that are great for bloggers to keep a steady stream of content ideas coming in.

Google Alerts
The first tool is Google Alerts. You can sign up for an alert on pretty much any keyword that interests you and Google will send you an email every time that it comes across that term.

Say you’re blogging about rain forests. Head over to the Google Alerts page and sign up for an alert for “rain forests”. You’ll have the option to get results from the web, blogs, news, groups, or all of the above; and can receive updates weekly, daily, or as Google finds it.

Google News
The Google News tool is great because you can search through news stories on anything that interests you. But if you look to the left on the search results page you’ll see links to an RSS and Atom feed version of the search results. Copy those links into your feedreader and you’ll have a feed of the latest news on whatever interests you.
