Using Google Alerts to keep track of what’s said about you
I wrote about Google Alerts a few months ago to get new topic ideas for your blog or forum. There is another use for Alerts - to keep track of what’s being said about you, your site, or your company.
By entering your name, site name, or company name you can get email alerts any time that Google comes across a site with those words. This works really well when comments are made about your company on blogs or forum postings. As an example, I have an alert setup for a web product of mine and I get an email 2 or 3 times a week from Google with sites that it found mentioning my product. I am then able to respond to the comments.
What’s really nice about this is that you’re able to quickly respond to any issues that may arise about your company even if it’s happening on a site you don’t control. I had a user make a comment that they were convinced that they could post about my product on a car site (the product is photography related) and I would respond within a week. Google Alerts is the way that happens.
