Adding a forum to a blog
I’ve been debating adding a forum to FBW for a while now. This weekend I decided it was time. Sure, there’s not as much traffic here as I would like and that’s probably going to lead to a fairly slow start to the forum. But every board’s got to start somewhere, right? Hopefully those of y’all that visit here will find the forums a good place to discuss web development and programs.
Over to the right you’ll see a forum link under Pages. Follow that link, or just click on this one, and you’ll get to see our shiny new bbPress forum.
Why bbPress? Valid question. I wanted the forum and the blog to look as similar as possible and from reading on the bbPress site is looked like it would be the easiest way to accomplish that goal. They also bridged together with almost no work on my part which means you can register on the forum and post on the blog with the same login.

The original plan was to add the forum when my daily visitors averaged above 200 for a few days. After hovering around 175 for several days I got impatient. What wound up happening is that my daily visitors have gone up to about 225 a day since adding the forum. Of course those aren’t great stats, and are actually a little embarrassing to share. But they’re a start.
